Intro to Open Water Swimming/ Intro to Cold Water Swimming

This is your invitation to join me for this 90 minute Intro to Open Water Swimming at Caversham Lakes.

 

Who's it for?

Anyone that's ever wanted to try open water swimming, but felt overwhelmed about where to start, what to do, and what you need to get started.  Maybe you're a new triathlete looking to complete your first triathlon in open water, and want to be able to swim open water confidently.  Maybe you've heard how great open water (and cold water ) swimming is for physical and mental health and wanted to give it a go.  Maybe you heard that after swim cake was on offer and wondered what kind of cake...

 

What's covered? (Open Water - summer only)

8am-8.30am (Dryside).  Fears, hopes and safety tips.

8.30am-9am (In the water).  Effective faffing, acclimatisation and swimming.

9.00am-9.30am (Dryside).  How it went, questions, answers, strawberries and hot drinks

9.30am: Home

Please note that time in the water will vary depending on water temperature on the day.  You are always free to leave the water and change any time you like.

What's covered? (Cold Water - autumn/winter only)

Session 1

Online via Zoom.  Water safety, nice to have vs must haves, what's in the bag, spotting the signs of hypothermia.

Session 2

Live at Caversham Lakes

8am-8.15am (Dryside).  Fears, hopes and review safety tips.

8.15am-8.45am (In the water).  Effective faffing, acclimatisation and swimming.

8.45am-9.00am (Dryside).  How it went, questions, answers, cake and hot drinks

9.00am: Home

What do I need to bring?

Swimsuit

Goggles

Wetsuit if wearing

Towfloat (can be bought from me for collection on the day)

Bright swim hat (provided)

Towels

Shoes/flip flops to walk to the water and back

Warm clothes for after, especially socks, gloves and woolly hats (essential)

Warm drink

 

Do I need a DryRobe?

Nope.  Not unless you already have one.  We'll cover changing robes in the first dryside/online session.

 

Do I need a wetsuit?

You can swim with or without a wetsuit.  If you choose to wear a wetsuit, we'll run through how to put them on and take them off and general care guidance.

What does the price include?

Entry to Caversham Lakes

Brightly coloured swim hat

90- 150 minutes of expert guidance
